Grillz: Fit, Styles and Care
How custom grillz are made to fit, the styles and cuts to choose from, and how to wear and clean them safely.

Quick Facts
What grillz are
Grillz are removable covers made to fit over your teeth, usually the front six or eight. They are jewelry, not dental work: they clip on and come off, and nothing is bonded or drilled. Ours are made in 925 sterling silver and can be fully set with VVS moissanite, from a single tooth up to a full top and bottom set.
How custom grillz are made to fit
A good grill is built around your teeth, not a generic shape. The process runs like this:
- Impression. You bite into a soft impression material that sets in a few minutes. It has to capture every tooth the grill will cover, plus a little of the gum line.
- Model. The impression is filled with dental stone to make a hard, exact copy of your teeth. The green and cream forms in our product photos are models like this.
- Metalwork. The grill is shaped and cast to fit the model, then the edges are finished smooth.
- Setting. For iced-out pieces, the moissanite is set across the surface in pavé, one stone at a time.
- Fit check. The finished piece goes back on the model to confirm it seats fully and comes off cleanly.

The impression decides everything that follows. A rushed or smudged one gives a grill that rocks, pinches or will not seat properly. Follow the instructions that come with the impression material exactly, and if the result looks unclear, take it again. Choosing your set
How many teeth
Sets are described by the number of teeth they cover. Six covers the front teeth from canine to canine; eight goes one tooth further on each side and fills out the smile. Single caps and smaller partial sets suit a subtler look, and top and bottom can be ordered together or on their own.
Deep cut or regular cut

A deep cut, also called a perm cut, is shaped right up to the gum line and around the outline of each tooth, so it looks close to permanent dental work. A regular cut stops a little short of the gum and has a simpler outline. Regular cuts are easier to put in and take out and a little more forgiving of small changes in fit; deep cuts give the most realistic look.
Finish
Beyond fully iced sets, you can mix set teeth with polished ones, as on several of the sets in our grillz collection, or ask for a different stone layout on individual teeth. If you have a design in mind, send it to us and we will tell you what is possible.
Wearing grillz comfortably
- Brush and floss before you put them in. Anything trapped underneath sits against your teeth for hours.
- Seat them with gentle, even pressure from your fingers. Never bite down to force a grill into place.
- Expect to sound slightly different for the first day or two. Speech adjusts quickly.
- Take them out to eat. Food packs into the gaps, and chewing pressure can bend the metal.
- Avoid sugary and acidic drinks while wearing them, because the liquid is held against your teeth.
- Do not sleep in them.
Cleaning and storage
- Rinse the grill in lukewarm water as soon as you take it out.
- Brush it gently with a soft toothbrush kept only for the grill and a drop of mild soap. Work along the rows of stones and around the inside of the shell.
- Skip the toothpaste. It is abrasive and dulls polished silver over time.
- Rinse again and dry completely with a soft, lint-free cloth.
- Keep it in its case, away from other jewelry, somewhere dry.
Sterling silver tarnishes, and grillz spend their time somewhere warm and damp, so a quick clean after every wear makes a real difference. A silver polishing cloth brings back the shine on polished teeth; keep it off the stones. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners, which can loosen pavé.
When the fit changes
Teeth shift a little over the years, and dental work such as a new crown or filling changes their shape. If a set that used to fit starts to rock or pinch, do not try to bend it yourself. A fresh impression is the reliable fix.
Frequently Asked Questions
No. Take them out to eat. Chewing can bend the metal, and food gets trapped between the grill and your teeth.
Treat them as something for an occasion or a few hours rather than all day. Take them out to eat and never sleep in them.
Removable grillz worn sensibly and kept clean are low risk. Problems come from wearing them for long periods, eating in them or not cleaning them, which traps food and bacteria against the teeth.
A deep cut, or perm cut, goes up to the gum line and follows each tooth closely for a permanent look. A regular cut has a simpler outline that is easier to put in and take out.
